Then one day, I read an article in Boy’s Life called “Snow Creature.” It was about the Abominable Snowman, who lives in the Himalayas of central Asia. The author was Mr. Sanderson. A whole new world had been opened to me.
Before that article, the world was a familiar and safe place. All of the animals in it were known, cataloged and photographed. Except for dinosaurs, but that’s a different story. All the animals could be explained, and therefore were not very mysterious, just their habitats were. He invented the term Cryptozoology for the search for animals not yet accepted by Science, yet are very real.
Mr. Sanderson introduced me to a world of mystery, where all sorts of creatures lurked. I found the name of the book where the Boy’s Life article was taken from, and got the book for my birthday. It’s called “Abominable Snowmen: Legend Come to Life.” I still have the book, 40 years later.
After that, I found his other books. “Things” is about some very odd reports that don’t fit anywhere else, like living pterosaurs and Giant Human Skeletons. “Investigating the Unexplained” delves into historical anomalies, weird creatures and UFOs.
Now, I am open to ideas and concepts that most people would find hard to even listen to. This applies to all aspects of my life, and has made me more inventive, innovative and creative. I’ve had ideas all of my life, and have been putting them into reality through my stories and Game designs. I believe in the impossible every day, and seek to bring it into the possible through my efforts.
Steve Jobs has said that the Crazy Ones are the ones who change the world. You can count me in that group.
